Eyes on Yuki

Eyes on Yuki is a co-op turrent defense game where you have to protect Yuki. The adventure is filled with moments of cooperation, which is the main focus of the experience. We designed not only a tower defense game but also puzzle sections which require the coordination between the two players.
We started pre production by setting the design pilars of the game, which revolved around beign a casual and cooperative experience. We developed a first iteration of the game and attended the Gamescom 2024 at Cologne, Germany.
After that experience, we also conducted play testing sessions at different events, where we gathered lots of useful feedback. We decided to change the scope to make it more chaotic, and currently we are developing the next iteration of the game.
Analysis
I prototyped Yuki's logic on the map, creating a robust system for the design team to control his actions. It can be paused or resumed at our convenience, and dialogs can also be triggered when we need them.
We designed the arenas with the concept of turret hot spots in mind. These are places on the map where we wanted to guide the player to place turrets in them, making them efficient in engaging enemies along the routes. To do this, we made these spots to be on higher ground than the rest, and asked the art team to paint the landscape in a different shade so they would be easily seen.
We iterated on the puzzles to make them as accessible and comprehensible as possible. The play testing sessions were very useful for this.
