Lingokids

Details

Lingokids is an app designed for children aged 2 to 8 years old that combines playing and learning. Using games adapted to their ages, we teach them vocabulary, concepts, life skills, etc...
The app contains hundreds of games, each one focusing on a different eduacational goal that is taught by using the different mechanics of each game template. Lingokids is an app that receives constant updates and games. This continuous development has taught me to work on a Live Ops worflow and mentallity

I'm a Level Designer, this role requires me to be in constant communication with all my colleagues as I'm the one in charge of building the games inside Unity. I implement all the assets needed to create a new game, such as the sprites, animations or sounds. When any problem arise, I'm the one there to coordinate which is the best way to develop the game. Often I have to delve into the code in order to learn how the game is made from the inside and tweak a few things.

Lingokids has done several collaborations with external IPs, such as Disney, Moonbug (Blippi), NASA and Pocoyo. I have worked in many games for these IPs, having to adapt them to their feedback and requirements. The asyncronous communication with these external companies is a challenge that has brought great games.

Unique Games Development

In my day to day I'm in charge of implementing the logic of the unique games that we develop. These are games that are made from scratch and are completely different to the traditional game templates. I use internal scripting tools to create a game from the first idea to its final version.

I start with a concept of the game and then write the GDD, then I get to work inside Unity to build the base logic. I meet with my peers from other departments to coordinate and kick off the development. After the meeting, all the departments get to work, and as the graphics, animations, and sound effects come in, I integrate them into the game. In these types of games, I'm specially in charge of the final effects and polish, so making a game feel nice and juicy is a big part of my role.

After a game finishes development, we usually bring it to be tested by the real users, the kids, in tests at schools. I also track the metrics of the games using services like Amplitude and Google Looker.

These are some examples of my work:

Template Design

I have also designed entirely new game templates, from its first prototype to the final iteration. I have written various GDDs used for the developments, which I assisted alongside the programmers, artists, animators and sound designers in order to produce a quality experience.
Using the core design pillars of the Lingokids games, I have designed games like this:
